FOR FISHING JIGS AND PLASTICS ON BAITCASTING EQUIPMENT, WHAT LB LINE TEST IS BEST FOR ALL PURPOSES?

For fishing jigs and plastics on baitcasting equipment, what lb line exam is most appropriate for all purposes?

My setup is a 7'MH rod with a Shimano Citica. The hop sizes have been anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs. If I am regulating Seaguar ABRAZX fluorocarbon, that lb exam is most appropriate for all role hop and worm fishing.

If you are using FluoroCarbon then go with about 10 - 15 lb test.
If using braid then go with about 15 - 20lb

For all purpose go with 10. Braid, mono, fluoro... stick with 10 pound, it's not too heavy and it's not too light.

I wouldnt use braid, I would stick with floro or mono for jigs. I would use 12-15lb When Im jig/worm fishing I like knowing that I have a small extra to pull a fish out of structure or if I get snagged. Like everything else this is just an opinion

Normally, I would say 12LB, (thumbs to BC & Brandon) but, your using Fluorocarbon line. Fluro is virtually invisible underwater AND it sinks.

Because Fluro is "technically" invisible, you could use any size line up to 20LB's and easily get away with it, (in other words, it won't "spook" fish).

BUT, it all depends on WHERE your fishing? If your fishing in a heavily weeded/Rip Rap environment I'd suggest (at least) 15LB. And really, I'd suggest 14-15LB anyway....

    Why?

The diameter of 10-12LB line will make your 1/2 - 5/8 OZ Jigs "dig in" to the weeds and lake bottom. Know- The diameter of larger lines makes "line drag" in the water.

The Smaller diameter a line has and your Jig/lure falls quicker, (and hits bottom harder); LARGER diameter and your Jig/lure falls slower and lands softer. A Jig that is immediately fouled on the bottom or disappears an inch into the mud won't catch you many fish.....

Add in the fact your using Fluro TOO, and any Jig over 1/4 OZ is gonna be "rocketing" to the lake bottom, to immediately get fouled with weeds and muck.

Also, although Fluro has less stretch than Mono it STILL has stretch. 10-12LB Fluro will still be a bit "rubber bandy"- esp with Jigs/Lures 1/2 OZ and up.

Plus, most (excellent) Bass jigs (1/2 OZ and up) have honestly large hooks. Ever try to drive a 1/2 - 3/4 OZ Bass Jig into the bony part of a Bass's mouth with 10-12LB line? Sometimes it works, sometimes not- the larger fish usually shake it off! Lighter lines cannot make enough force to drive a typical 1/2 OZ Jig hook deep enough to get a excellent hook-set.

Reckon about this fact: 98% of Pro Bass anglers consider 12LB line, (either Mono or Fluro) a "finesse/light tackle" sized line. Heck, many reckon 14LB "light".

And like I mentioned above, it depends on WHERE and at what depth your fishing. If you were fishing in 25FT of gin-clear Offshore water you might WANT to downsize to 10-12LB Fluro.

    What are the conditions??????????????

In any regard- Any lake/river water above 15 FT, with a clarity of 6-8FT, I'd suggest 15LB Fluro as an "OK" all purpose Jig line, (that could easily double to throw 8-10" weighted Worms & Soft Plastic's)

    Hope this helps ya?
